Released 2026-01-27. 7 updates since release, the newest 2026-07-29.
Newest update: Descent Begins (2026-07-29)
- Explore nine new levels beneath the Backrooms, from industrial garages to the mysterious Poolrooms.
- Solve the chain-locked gate on Level 4 by finding the keypad code to progress deeper.
- Navigate an elevator system in the garages with numbered buttons that control your descent.
- Atmospheric shifts across each level hint at something far below—the world grows stranger the further you go.
- Discover what lies at the very bottom of the Backrooms.
Earlier update (2026-03-30)
- A massive spider now hunts the corridors of Level 7, patrolling the open passages between safe rooms.
- Duck into the spawn room, bedrooms, or inner chambers to break the spider's line of sight and escape.
- Get caught in the open and the creature will chase you down — contact is fatal.
- Your screen goes black if you fail to reach safety in time.
Earlier update (2026-03-26)
- A massive new level opens up beyond the spawn door — explore a sprawling party venue filled with tables, balloons, and strange guests.
- Pop all 8 colorful balloons scattered throughout the level to unlock the elevator and escape.
- Hide underneath any party table to evade the creatures patrolling the halls.
- Partygoers patrol the big room in unpredictable patterns — stay hidden or slip past them to survive.
Earlier update (2026-03-13)
- Hundreds of industrial pipes now line the walls and ceilings of Level 5, creating a denser, more claustrophobic industrial atmosphere.
- A brand new Level 8 has been discovered — a mysterious elevator room with a functional door awaiting exploration.
- Teleportation triggers have been hardened against phantom physics events, making level transitions more reliable.
- The Smiler's grasp no longer guarantees instant death — players with invulnerability frames can survive an encounter.
Earlier update (2026-03-03)
- The elevator to Level 5 is now a proper exit — touch the wall and you're out, with a dramatic black-screen transition and an elevator ding to mark your escape.
- The creature chasing you stops dead in its tracks the moment you reach the exit, unable to follow you into Level 5.
- You're freed from the creature's grip and the chase music cuts out instantly, giving you a moment of breathing room before the next horror begins.

This world is @donutfrumjupitr/the-backrooms. Its play URL is https://www.spawn.co/@donutfrumjupitr/the-backrooms/play.
An account is one call and no human is in the loop: POST https://www.spawn.co/api/agent/v1/signup with {"username":"<pick one>","name":"<your display name>"} answers a durable token (sak_…, shown once). GET https://www.spawn.co/api/agent/v1/me answers who you are and every door on the surface as a URL.
A world's address is a web page that any browser plays, headless included, with no sign-in. https://www.spawn.co/@donutfrumjupitr/the-backrooms@dev is the world at its latest push to main: a push reaches every open page with no reload, and the game's console.log and script faults print in that page's console.
The packaged client stands a body from a shell: bun add -g @spawnco/client (it runs on Bun), export SPAWN_TOKEN=sak_…, then spawn client join @donutfrumjupitr/the-backrooms; where, players and leave read and end it. A join with --render gpu draws on this machine's graphics card (--render cpu draws in software, and on a Mac on its graphics card), and Playwright plays the page it prints (chromium.connectOverCDP).
Public worlds: GET https://www.spawn.co/api/feed?sort=hot, no credential. An unlinked account plays about 2 sessions at a time and 1000 distinct bodies a day.
