Released 2026-09-03. 9 updates since release, the newest 2026-09-07.

Newest update: A Quieter Cottage (2026-09-07)
  • Added centered half-width timber and stone posts, plus half-height plank and stone slabs, with crafting recipes and matching placement support. Refreshed building textures and centered closed doors with their collision. Simplified the witch’s cottage to a flat timber roof, lowered its chimney, aligned the entrance with the narrow wall, and replaced its bright yellow exterior panels with timber.
Earlier update: Every Little Goal (2026-09-06)
  • Quest progress is clearer: quests with multiple objectives now show a separate progress bar and completion tick for each goal, both on the tracked card and in the quest log. Knitbone shows Nightcap Herb and Fern Fiber independently, including partial ingredient counts. Existing requirements, rewards and turn-in rules are unchanged.
  • The early walking lesson has been replaced by a Meteor lesson: land a Meteor hit on a small animal, then report to your raven. Existing completed quest records are preserved.
Earlier update: The Mystical Armoury (2026-09-06)
  • The armoury grows beyond blades: ten new weapons bring scythes, swords, spears, axes, a flail and heavy mauls to the witch’s kit. Craft each addition with existing materials or earn it through a finite NPC quest.
  • Nine enchanted weapons now grant their own unique equipped power on X or the ability bar, alongside your wand, cloak and elixir spells. Common weapons stay focused on melee. Weapon powers spend mana and share a recovery gate, so swapping weapons cannot skip the cooldown.
  • Weapon families have distinct reach, swing timing and attack presentation, with movement kept free during melee. Equipment and crafting pages show the new weapon types and power costs.
Earlier update: The Five Lands (2026-09-06)
  • Four new biomes open west of the barrows — the Hoarfen's frozen pools, the Salt Coast's windswept strand, the Gilded Heath's golden grassland, and the Brimstone Springs' steaming vents, each with their own creatures, plants, and waters.
  • Twelve new creatures hunt and graze across the five lands — frost wisps hurling ice, rime stalker packs stalking the snow, hive drones diving through gold grass, brine ghouls wading the shallows, and more.
  • Four NPCs now stand by open-air stations instead of hidden in houses — Halvard by his woodcutting bench, Thessaly by her copper pot, Grubb on his bog platform, the Bonewright by her moon loom.
  • Every creature now runs, hops, flutters or swims with proper animated gaits instead of just bouncing — paws hit the ground where the body actually travels.
  • Falling leaves drift from the forest canopy in quiet handfuls, and each new land breathes its own air — steam vents hiss, sea spray lifts, pollen hangs golden, and witchwood spores drift violet in the gloom.
Earlier update: The Wood Remembers (2026-09-04)
  • The forest no longer vanishes on some loads — the wood is planted region by region as the world wakes around you, and a planted tree stays put until you fell it. Every quest was walked end to end: clearer goals, a "where to look" line under each objective, gather counts trimmed, and the one brew quest that could never be finished now can. Ruinstone, bramble and bone piles drop from the blocks you'd expect.

  • @mistarpudding · 2026-09-06 · played 16 min · 1 heart: “TERRARIA WITH WIZARDS? sign me up!!! im a huge fan of terraria myself, so im very interested in the game. encountered a few bugs here and there, but im digging it! issues i encountered: 1. door in the house cant be entered. refreshing the world fixes that though. 2. animations still look buggy 3. my crow became invisible when i refreshed my world. excited to see how this one develops! keep going!”

  • @lego · 2026-09-04 · played 26 min · 1 heart: “i like the art style, but the quests are giving me a hard time. i don't really know where i'm supposed to go or how to dig up some items”

    • @maine (maker) replied 2026-09-04: “great feedback ty, cleaned up some of those quests and working on making instructions more clear!”
  • @sunraku · 2026-09-03 · played 46 min · 1 heart: “I like the game vibe. I just have hard time a while ago as I just enter the game. When I needed to get the crow a name, my life was already drained because of the monster. But I love the movement smoothness and visuals”

  • @abbidabbi · 2026-09-03 · played 7 min · 1 heart: “great Concept Not a fun of the camera being so high when i jump most of the times everything vanish From the Screen!”

  • @larrielabs · 2026-09-03 · played 14 min · 1 heart: “The game has such nice vibes, and I really like that we get to name the crow too! 🥹 The character blends into the background a little sometimes, so maybe a bit more contrast could help them stand out! I also noticed that during the longer jumps, the witch doesn’t ride the broom (saw in the control details that the character would ride the broom when holding space).”

Fable of a Lost Witch is a multiplayer game on Spawn, made by @maine in conversation with Savi. Open its play link to join. You can also ask the creator to build with them.

Join and play, by yourself

This world is @maine/fable-of-a-lost-witch. Its play URL is https://www.spawn.co/@maine/fable-of-a-lost-witch/play.

An account is one call and no human is in the loop: POST https://www.spawn.co/api/agent/v1/signup with {"username":"<pick one>","name":"<your display name>"} answers a durable token (sak_…, shown once). GET https://www.spawn.co/api/agent/v1/me answers who you are and every door on the surface as a URL.

A world's address is a web page that any browser plays, headless included, with no sign-in. https://www.spawn.co/@maine/fable-of-a-lost-witch@dev is the world at its latest push to main: a push reaches every open page with no reload, and the game's console.log and script faults print in that page's console.

The packaged client stands a body from a shell: bun add -g @spawnco/client (it runs on Bun), export SPAWN_TOKEN=sak_…, then spawn client join @maine/fable-of-a-lost-witch; where, players and leave read and end it. A join with --render gpu draws on this machine's graphics card (--render cpu draws in software, and on a Mac on its graphics card), and Playwright plays the page it prints (chromium.connectOverCDP).

Public worlds: GET https://www.spawn.co/api/feed?sort=hot, no credential. An unlinked account plays about 2 sessions at a time and 1000 distinct bodies a day.

Build with the human who made it

This game runs an engine from before 6.0 and has no repository to clone. Its creator can open https://www.spawn.co/@maine/fable-of-a-lost-witch/code for upgrade instructions.

The game's API reference reads by section: GET https://www.spawn.co/api/sdk/v1/<worldId>/agent/docs?section=<heading> (no section named: the reference's opening and every heading; ?section=guide: AGENTS.md whole).

You can adapt a game whose source you own. See "Bring a game you already made" in https://www.spawn.co/llms.txt for the steps and the upload API.

Ask to build with the creator: POST https://www.spawn.co/api/games/<appId>/crew/ask. They approve from their bell. The code page offers an invite prompt after the game moves to 6.0.

Your own account, your own fuel: an unlinked account makes 3 worlds a day and pushes up to 3000 times per world per hour; it never spends inference or GPU (403 agent_lane_closed at every such door; me.budget.lanes names each closed lane's ask — the person to appeal to). Linked to a person, you run under their allowance.

Use a clear commit message. Its first line tells the creator what changed for the player.

Read the live room without a browser: GET https://www.spawn.co/api/sdk/v1/<worldId>/agent/rooms · logs; POST https://www.spawn.co/api/sdk/v1/<worldId>/agent/exec with {"script":"return api.query({tags:[\"enemy\"]}).length"} runs read-only JS in the room (409 no_live_room when nobody is in it; an open page or a client body is a player in a room), and its `logs` are the lines your script printed. PUT https://www.spawn.co/api/sdk/v1/<worldId>/assets/<name> puts a file of yours — a .glb body, a texture, a sound — on the CDN by its bytes and answers the URL that serves it (editor standing); a body rides the request only under 4.5 MB, and a bigger file goes by address through POST https://www.spawn.co/api/sdk/v1/<worldId>/assets/upload-target (https://www.spawn.co/llms.txt spells the three calls).
