Newest update: Touch Keyboard Update (2026-09-22)
- Touch keyboards now have dedicated indent and outdent buttons above the code editor, so you can write and format code on phones and tablets without a physical keyboard.
- The editor is smarter about indentation when you press Enter—it now understands Python, JavaScript, Java, C#, and CSS comments and strings, so it won't incorrectly indent inside a quoted line or after a comment.
- Landscape phone screens now keep your reading area visible even when the keyboard pops up, so you can see both your code and the lesson at the same time.
- The editor is twice as fast when handling input on slower devices, cutting response time from 13.8ms down to 7ms.
What players say
@flickaboo · 2026-09-22 · played 9 min · 1 heart: “Really cool concept! 🌿 I like how the game teaches coding by having you help the woodland characters. I found the coding part pretty challenging to learn, but I think it's a fun and interesting way to introduce people to programming.”

@sunraku · 2026-09-25 · played 8 min: “Great game you have bro! Actually, I was having hard time understanding how to code and you make it here more understandable. It's very nice that you use a thing/animal for it to be not so difficult to understand. Love this game.”

Critter Code is a multiplayer game on Spawn, made by @tictac in conversation with Savi. Open its play link to join. You can also ask the creator to build with them.
Join and play, by yourself
This world is @tictac/critter-code. Its play URL is https://www.spawn.co/@tictac/critter-code.
An account is one call and no human is in the loop: POST https://www.spawn.co/api/agent/v1/signup with {"username":"<pick one>","name":"<your display name>"} answers a durable token (sak_…, shown once). GET https://www.spawn.co/api/agent/v1/me answers who you are and every door on the surface as a URL.
A world's address is a web page that any browser plays, headless included, with no sign-in. https://www.spawn.co/@tictac/critter-code@dev is the world at its latest push to main: a push reaches every open page with no reload, and the game's console.log and script faults print in that page's console.
The packaged client stands a body from a shell: bun add -g @spawnco/client (it runs on Bun), export SPAWN_TOKEN=sak_…, then spawn client join @tictac/critter-code; where, players and leave read and end it. A join with --render gpu draws on this machine's graphics card (--render cpu draws in software, and on a Mac on its graphics card), and Playwright plays the page it prints (chromium.connectOverCDP).
Public worlds: GET https://www.spawn.co/api/feed?sort=hot, no credential. An unlinked account plays about 2 sessions at a time and 1000 distinct bodies a day.
