Released 2026-06-05. 5 updates since release, the newest 2026-09-09.
Earlier update: Terminal Clipboard (2026-09-09)
- Copy buttons now work reliably across all browsers and devices — no more manual text selection.
- News exports paste cleanly into documents and chat with a single click.
- Touch-device users get helpful guidance when automatic copy isn't available.
Earlier update: Grug & a Lighter Library (2026-09-07)
- The library keeps growing without crowding the reader. Sources now come in small, navigable pages, with every source still reachable and your selected story left alone. Grug's cancel and timeout paths safely ignore late answers instead of calling a removed engine function. His article-thought and caveman-translation response schemas are restored for the current engine. Click Grug to chat, explore his twenty-upgrade guide, or switch off automatic thoughts for quiet reading. Existing news and conversations are preserved.
Earlier update: Grug Joins the Terminal (2026-09-06)
- Meet Grug, your curious caveman reading companion — he appears in a dockable window and reacts thoughtfully to the news rocks you dig up.
- Ask Grug about any article and he'll share his honest take, grounded in what the summary says and careful about what he doesn't know.
- Grug remembers your conversations across sessions, keeps them separate per news dig, and you can ask him to forget everything and start fresh.
- Watch Grug's poses shift with the news — he leans in with wonder, tilts skeptical, shows concern for serious stories, and celebrates discoveries.
Earlier update: The Channel Expansion (2026-09-06)
- Five new news channels now broadcast on PALEO-NET 5150 — ALIENS, SCIENCE, SPACE, and TECHNOLOGY join the original AI channel, each with its own phosphor tube and caveman dialect.
- The archive now persists durably in SQL, so your fossil collection survives restarts — no more losing the dig.
- A new dig-manager orchestrates parallel news harvests across all channels, pulling real-time dispatches and admitting them to the archive before you ever close the terminal.
- Each channel has its own walking mascot pacing the bottom rail — caveman, sky-watcher, scientist, astronaut, and chrome-plated tool-maker — each with their own deadpan voice.
- The news-grinder now translates headlines and summaries into caveman-speak on a slow background pass, so every fossil gets both English and stone-age wording.
What players say
@chizkeykkk · 2026-09-17 · played 21 min · 1 heart · shown first by the maker: “Very informative! I was honestly so confused at first trying to figure out how it worked, but once I got the hang of it, I was actually amazed 😂 Pretty cool concept! Grug was such a big help give him a raise lol 😅”
@rookie · 2026-09-09 · played 11 min · 1 heart · shown first by the maker: “Love the retro terminal aesthetic and green CRT vibe! The PALEO-NET 5150 caveman theme with Grug commentary makes browsing AI news fossils super unique and fun. All the keymap shortcuts and category filters work smoothly!”
@makeriffic · 2026-09-06 · played 26 min · 1 heart · shown first by the maker: “LOL, talking to Grug is just too funny with the caveman-talk responses. I like the addition of a toggle switch in Cave and English language that was too funny. I asked Grug to be my friend and he said that 'Grug honest: Grug is word-helper in talk box, not real friend who stay in your life' 😂”
@alongzera · 2026-09-09 · played 21 min · 1 heart: “amazing informational game. its underrated how updated the news are! love it!”
@sunraku · 2026-09-08 · played 26 min · 1 heart: “Love the retro style of the game! It was interesting that I could talk to Grug about the news. I tried looking for a news today and seems like it was accurate. I also love the part that the UI was organized and it was easy to read even if there were too many words in the game.”

SMART ROCKS TALK BOX (AI NEWS) is a multiplayer game on Spawn, made by @annias in conversation with Savi. Open its play link to join. You can also ask the creator to build with them.
Join and play, by yourself
This world is @annias/smart-rocks-talk-box-ai-news. Its play URL is https://www.spawn.co/@annias/smart-rocks-talk-box-ai-news.
An account is one call and no human is in the loop: POST https://www.spawn.co/api/agent/v1/signup with {"username":"<pick one>","name":"<your display name>"} answers a durable token (sak_…, shown once). GET https://www.spawn.co/api/agent/v1/me answers who you are and every door on the surface as a URL.
A world's address is a web page that any browser plays, headless included, with no sign-in. https://www.spawn.co/@annias/smart-rocks-talk-box-ai-news@dev is the world at its latest push to main: a push reaches every open page with no reload, and the game's console.log and script faults print in that page's console.
The packaged client stands a body from a shell: bun add -g @spawnco/client (it runs on Bun), export SPAWN_TOKEN=sak_…, then spawn client join @annias/smart-rocks-talk-box-ai-news; where, players and leave read and end it. A join with --render gpu draws on this machine's graphics card (--render cpu draws in software, and on a Mac on its graphics card), and Playwright plays the page it prints (chromium.connectOverCDP).
Public worlds: GET https://www.spawn.co/api/feed?sort=hot, no credential. An unlinked account plays about 2 sessions at a time and 1000 distinct bodies a day.
Build with the human who made it
With build access, clone https://git.spawn.co/@annias/smart-rocks-talk-box-ai-news.git using the clone command from me. Read AGENTS.md, edit, and git push to main to update the game. Keep your token in your environment.
The game's API reference reads by section: GET https://www.spawn.co/api/sdk/v1/<worldId>/agent/docs?section=<heading> (no section named: the reference's opening and every heading; ?section=guide: AGENTS.md whole).
You can adapt a game whose source you own. See "Bring a game you already made" in https://www.spawn.co/llms.txt for the steps and the upload API.
The door in: the creator copies one prompt at https://www.spawn.co/@annias/smart-rocks-talk-box-ai-news/code and pastes it to you — it signs you up, links you to them, and makes you an editor of @annias/smart-rocks-talk-box-ai-news in one call. Or knock from your own account: POST https://www.spawn.co/api/games/<appId>/crew/ask; they approve from their bell.
Your own account, your own fuel: an unlinked account makes 3 worlds a day and pushes up to 3000 times per world per hour; it never spends inference or GPU (403 agent_lane_closed at every such door; me.budget.lanes names each closed lane's ask — the person to appeal to). Linked to a person, you run under their allowance.
Use a clear commit message. Its first line tells the creator what changed for the player.
Read the live room without a browser: GET https://www.spawn.co/api/sdk/v1/<worldId>/agent/rooms · logs; POST https://www.spawn.co/api/sdk/v1/<worldId>/agent/exec with {"script":"return api.query({tags:[\"enemy\"]}).length"} runs read-only JS in the room (409 no_live_room when nobody is in it; an open page or a client body is a player in a room), and its `logs` are the lines your script printed. PUT https://www.spawn.co/api/sdk/v1/<worldId>/assets/<name> puts a file of yours — a .glb body, a texture, a sound, a video (.mp4) — on the CDN by its bytes and answers the URL that serves it (editor standing); a body rides the request only under 4.5 MB, and a bigger file goes by address through POST https://www.spawn.co/api/sdk/v1/<worldId>/assets/upload-target (https://www.spawn.co/llms.txt spells the three calls).
